Online art therapy workshop with a selkie theme

There are times in life when we know something is changing, yet we're not quite sure where we're heading. We may feel caught between who we've been and who we're becoming.

Inspired by the folklore of the selkie, this creative workshop offers space to pause, slow down and explore the themes of transformation and the freedom of being in your true form.

Selkies are mythological shapeshifters in Celtic and Norse folklore that can transform between seal and human forms by shedding or donning their magical seal skins. Originating mostly from coastal regions like Scotland, Ireland and Iceland, these "seal folk" are central to haunting tales of love, loss, and an inescapable yearning for the ocean.

Through story, relaxation, visualisation, art making, free writing, reflection and sharing, you'll have the opportunity to reconnect with yourself in a creative, supportive space.

What to expect over 1.5 hours

  • A gentle relaxation and guided visualisation inspired by the story of the selkie.

  • Time to make art in response to your experience.

  • Free writing and personal reflection.

  • The opportunity to share your experience with the group if you would like to.

This is a gentle, creative experience.

You do not need to be good at art. You do not need lots of materials.

The focus is on process, reflection, symbolism and what unfolds when you are given enough comfort, spaciousness and support.

Nature provides an endless source of strength and metaphor that can promote resilience and soothe your nervous system.

The relaxation and visualisation help to soften the constant movement of thoughts.

The art-making offers a way to explore what you find without needing to explain everything in words.

Often, what has felt unclear or out of reach begins to take shape.

About The Soothing Season

Hi, I'm Sarah, Art Therapist and creator of The Soothing Season.

I offer nature-inspired art therapy supporting women to reconnect with themselves.

Sometimes, there comes a point where things no longer feel quite right. You may have spent years caring for others, keeping things going, and putting your own needs to one side. Life may have shifted, and with a growing sense of disconnection, you feel that you want something more, even if you cannot fully name it yet.

Through art, visualisation and nature, I offer a creative way to reconnect with what matters to you, notice what you need, and find a little more calm, meaning and self-understanding.

My work is centred around helping women slow down enough to hear themselves again.

Feedback from our creative workshop participants

A wonderful , friendly, and heart-warming session.I feel so blessed to be able to share a simple drawing and discuss it, and to see the beautiful images that other people create.
